We All Could Use a Laugh

I was browsing in a bookstore and saw the book. The title and the Author's name are familiar but I cannot recall why. I open a copy and saw numerous comments. Read about four, which all said the book was funny. I decided to buy it. I got a bit disappointed while on the first chapter but can hardly put it down after it. I was already in the middle of the book when I told my friend, "Tina, I'm reading a very funny book you should buy one! (because she doesn't like reading a book that's not new)" She asked me, "What's the title?" I said " Me Talk Funny One Day". She said, "Me Talk Pretty One Day! That's the book I was telling you about, where the author had a lisp?" I said, ''yes."

Me Can Recall Someday...

Me just finished the book. It was very funny. It made me laugh out loud. It was similar to the story telling of Bob Ong in his ABNKKBSNPLKo! and Bakit Baligtad Magbasa ng Libro Ang Mga Pilipino? If you laughed reading those books, you'll enjoy Me Talk Pretty One Day. Excuse me for comparing. The author's observations of the silliness of, well, society and some individuals are hilarious but sound. You'll laugh at the things he pondered about and hate those that he hated. It will not be a laugh every turn of the page but oh you will laugh.

So far, the books that succeeded in making me laugh are:

Nobody Loves a Drunken Indian***** - A novel by Clair Huffaker
Love and Marriage*** - Bill Cosby
Time Flies***** - Bill Cosby
ABNKKBSNPLKo!**** - Bob Ong
Bakit Baligtad Magbasa ng Libro Ang Mga Pilipino?*** - Bob Ong

Nobody Loves a Drunken Indian is hilarious. It tells about the plight of native Americans in a reservation camp. You'll find humor in the characters; in their schemes in an attempt to gain some level of fairness in their current state; in the languages and conversations and even in the etymology of their names. You'll laugh at the taming of H-Bomb. Although filled with funny goings on, it was actually, a very serious description of the Native American’s experience after the colonization.

Oh, in this novel, the Bataan Death March was mentioned as a point of comparison. Apparently, some Native Americans experienced something similar, only worse. Imagine that.

Too bad I lost my copy of the novel. I want to buy one, now only available in amazon.com but still hoping to see a copy in book sales. Wish me luck.

I think one should read Time Flies while they're still young to find it funny. It may appear like a reference book on what to expect when "ageing" when read during one's senior days. I had my father read it and he said, "Yeah, it's funny. I can relate to some of his experiences..." but my sister's and my stomach ached from laughing in many of the anecdotes. A lot of hardbound copies of this book you will see in book sales but it does not mean it cannot make you laugh.

Bakit Baligtad Magbasa ng Libro Ang Mga Pilipino? would probably have made me laugh harder if the contents weren't so familiar. Most of them I received via e-mail before I read the book. Still worth buying. It's cheap and written by a Filipino. Yippee!

Love and Marriage I read a long time ago. I hardly remember anything about it except that it made me laugh. Cosby I think can make the simple act of pouring water in a glass funny. I want to buy Cosbiology but it's never available in bookstores.

ABNKKBSNPLKo! made me laugh out loud and curious about the author.

Oh, 5 stars would be funniest for me. Me Talk Pretty One Day gets 4 stars.

Wow he can fly!!! Yun pala, ayaw lang natin lumipad...
Wow laser vision!!! Yun pala, ayaw lang natin tingnan ang dapat titigan...
Wow ang lakas!!! But we just don't want to lift a finger...
Pero gaya ni Superman, it kills us to be confronted by something that came from home...

Sabi ni Hafiz:

Every friend who talked of love, became a foe.
Every eagle shifted its shape to a crow.
They say the night is pregnant, and I say,
Who is the father? And how do you know?

Sabi ni Wanderwuman:

do not forget you are imperfect
and criticisms you will meet
from them seek wisdom
and learn that there's none
for the tounges that accuse
most likely are blind
